The NBA 2K series has always been one that I’ve enjoyed and the vast array of modes has always been a factor of that. One of the modes myself and many others loved in the past is called Crew Mode where you create a team and play with others with your created characters in an officiated game. This has been missing for a few years now and it seems to be making its return in NBA 2K15. The only problem is, it seems to only be on the last generation of consoles.
Crew mode was a huge hit when it was in past years’ games and fans of the 2K series have been clamoring for it for long time now. Announcing this mode is bound to cause a stir and in fact already has. My biggest concern is that they are holding out Crew Mode to help sell copies of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game.
Now there are talks that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will have a mode that pulls features from Crew Mode, but simply put, the fans just want Crew Mode, not something that resembles it, not something with the park mixed in, they want plain old Crew Mode in their Xbox One and PlayStation 4 games.
In my eyes, I don’t believe that the last generation consoles’ game should include anything that the current generation (Xbone and PS4), don’t have as well. I know that the consoles are newer and 2K Sports may not have figured everything about them out yet, but to look back and see a past generation game have a huge game mode included that the current one wouldn’t have is something many fans including myself won’t put up with.
The thing I don’t want to see happen is that Crew Mode will be used for a selling point and the one last reason to keep the past generation versions alive in the sales department. Someone who loves the game may want to buy the newest version of the game, but if they see that Crew Mode is only available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version, that may just sway them to purchase one of those versions instead.
I know the money ends up in the same place, but to hold out such a wanted feature from the most powerful version of their series would be a huge slap in the faces of many NBA 2K fans. Let’s just hope that the planned “new mode” is something long time fans can get behind.
