My favorite time of the year is upon us. In just one short week, E3 will start and our favorite game companies will show and tell us about the biggest titles that will be hitting store shelves in the upcoming years. In my opinion, one of the best parts about the show, is the hype and speculation leading up to it. The predictions, the educated guesses, and the straight up prayers are all out on the table all over the internet, so it’s time we here at Gaming Tech United give ours. Without further ado, we’ll start with Sony and the PlayStation brand.
Disclaimer: These are not in order, just five predictions as to what we may see at the press conference.
PlayStation 4 1TB Unit Revealed / 500GB Price Drop
This move just makes sense for Sony. This is a way to play the price drop game without just simply dropping the price. I believe that storage has been a big hang up for a lot of people when it comes to both the PS4 and the Xbox One and this unit will finally alleviate that problem for Sony.
When the PS4 1TB unit out in the wild, I think that you’ll see another sales spike. At $399.99, I believe that SKU will fly off the shelves. Personally, if I did not have a PS4, I would hop on it after a four hundred dollar, one terabyte one hit store shelves.
Going along with the $399.99 price tag on the 1TB, I predict that the 500GB PS4, will sink down to the $349.99 price range.
PlayStation Vita Price Drop
Now that the Vita has been declared a “legacy platform”, I think it will see a price drop announced. I think it’ll be a pretty drastic one as it will be a bigger “oh wow” moment for the crowd and those watching at home.
My estimated MSRP will be around the $109.99 mark. At this price, the Vita is one hell of a grab and I think sales may even pick up a little bit. This price reduction will be Sony’s way of saying, “hey we’re done with it, but there will be still be plenty other third party games for it.”
As someone who loves their Vita, at that price point, you NEED to go out and grab it if you don’t own one.
This is probably my most broad prediction, as I’m not one hundred percent sure as to what firmware 3.0 will have with it. If we do see this announcement though, I believe that we do get word on changing our PSN names.
This is a huge issue for MANY people and it’s open that I think could be a good E3 announcement if bundled with a firmware update.
Like I said, I don’t know what exactly else this would entail feature wise, but I’m sure if we do see more from it, Sony will have something pretty interesting to go along with the new update.
The Last Guardian Announced – Ships Holiday 2015
The name here says it all. The Last Guardian has been talked in hush corners about many, many years now, but this will be the year we see it. I also believe that if we do see it, it will hit that same year.
Sony has nothing to gain by teasing it. That will only hurt them in the court of public perception. If they really want to make a splash, and I think they will, they’ll announce that The Last guardian is here and it’s coming to your PlayStation 4’s this coming holiday season.
Project Morpheus Extended Look
This year we’ll get a 15-30 minute look at Project Morpheus. Sony will try to convey their messaging behind it and what VR is going to be like with a PlayStation twist.
We may see Media Molecule with a title that works in conjunction with Morpheus and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear games like Gran Turismo will have Morpheus functionality.
I don’t know that this will go over too well though, as I’m not sure that demoing and talking about VR is all that easy in a press conference setting. Personally I’m excited to see what Sony has in store for us with Morpheus, but this is the type of thing that you can only really grasp once it’s in your hands, or in this case, on your head.
Well there it is. Our predictions for Sony’s conference are in the books and ready to be put to the test. Will they be right? Will none of them be on the money? I guess only time will and I know that between now and then, I’ll be as giddy as ever waiting in anticipation.
